Year 1 Place Value

Children in Year 1 have been learning about the number line up to 20.

Children used the number lines to practise and consolidate the skills they have learnt. They recapped on counting from 0 to 20 forwards when labelling a number line and practised counting backwards when reading from right to left. A number line is a great opportunity to count from zero, as children do not do this when counting physical things.

They use a variety of number lines all counting in 1s, but with different start and end point values. They also reinforced their learning of one more and one less and consolidate their understanding of tens and ones.

Understanding how to use this manipulative is a skill the children need to know as it will help them to become confident and  independent learners.
