Children in Year 1 looked having been looking at non-standard of measures using cubes. Children compared lengths of various objects they found within the school grounds and took measurements.

They were able to compare, describe and solve practical problems. They were encouraged to use language for lengths and heights such as long/short, longer/shorter, tall/short, double/half.

Once the children were confident with how to measure they moved on to use standard measures such as centimeters.
